Acclaimed News Icon Frances Weller to Preside Over Genesis Block Graduation
Genesis Block is excited to announce that Wilmington area television icon Frances Weller will preside over the Back on the Block Minority Accelerator Graduation ceremony. The ceremony will include a Demo Day event featuring the nine companies selected to participate in the accelerator showcasing their growth strategies.
Frances Weller is the news anchor for NBC affiliate WECT News at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. weeknights. Frances began her television career in 1982 with WECT and for three years she was a general assignment reporter. In 1986 she was named co-anchor of WECT’s 6:00 and 11:00 news programs and has become one of the most popular media personalities in North Carolina.
Frances has received several accolades for her achievements in journalism and community service. Her awards include:
•Voted Best Newscaster by Encore Magazine readers 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013
- Citizen of the Year, presented by Omega Psi Phi fraternity
- North Carolina State Human Relations Achievement Award presented by the governor
- YWCA Woman of the Year in Achievement
She is also a board member of the Community Boys & Girls Club and serves as a member of the Willie Stargell Foundation which raises money for local residents living with kidney disease.
