Code Ninjas Wilmington, offers kids the opportunity to learn coding by building their very own video games. Flexible coding programs for kids make it easy on parents with convenient drop-in hours on weeknights and weekends.

The Digital Literacy Gap is caused by differences in how children in and out of school gain access and use technology to improve learning opportunity and outcomes. In today’s world, driven by technology and innovation, children having access to resources to help them grow skills in science, technology, engineering and math is vital to future success.

Located at 1982 Eastwood Road in Wilmington,North Carolina, Code Ninjas provides a unique environment for kids to learn coding by developing their own video games. Code Ninjas owner Zoe Mathews, is motivated by her mission to empower children. Code Ninjas is the world’s largest and fastest-growing kids coding franchise, with hundreds of locations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Code Ninjas believes that there’s never been a more exciting time to advance our culture — starting with our youngest ones.

We had an opportunity to talk with the owner of Code Ninjas, Zoe Mathews, to gain insights on what inspired her to bring this to Wilmington and its community impact.

GB: What inspired you to launch Code Ninjas?

ZM: My daughter, Kaia and my step son, Ryan. Five years ago they started showing an interest in game building and began to experiment with block based programming. They built a game called “Rainbow Weinee” starring our dachshund Milton.

Simultaneously that year I met a woman who was about to open a Code Ninjas in Raleigh, NC. I put my energy toward the opportunity to bring Code Ninjas to the Wilmington community and to move my career towards something I felt more personally inspired by, empowering children.

GB: What is in store for Code Ninjas in 2022?

ZM: Code Ninjas Wilmington in Lumina Commons is buzzing with new offerings in 2022! Birthday Parties, Parents Night Out, and 10 different Summer Camps! I have three passionate Code Sensei’s and am in the process of hiring three more.

At Code Ninjas, kids learn to code while building their own video games.
