Genesis Block Building Ready Willing Able Talent Pipeline with the NC DOT

Genesis Block is partnering with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to educate small, woman-owned or minority-owned businesses on the benefits of being part of the Ready Willing and Able Contractors database.

Genesis Block is partnering with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Office of Civil Rights to create and maintain a database of DBE contractors who are qualified and capable of mobilizing for cleanup efforts to respond to disasters across the state. The project is called Ready, Willing, and Able (RWA) highlighting the need for qualified diverse owned businesses to support NCDOT disaster related operations.

Genesis Block introduced Genesis Bridge, its supply chain services brand, in 2022 with the aim of supporting organizations efforts to bolster their contracting partners in communities and diversify their supply chains. Genesis Block will begin recruiting efforts in the NCDOT Division 3 counties including New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick, Duplin, Sampson and Onslow counties.

Converting Conversations to Contracts as a networking and trade show platform helped secure over $327,890 in minority contracts with $260,000 remaining in the pipeline.

The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Office of Civil Rights promotes and ensures equal access and equal opportunity for customers and employees participating in North Carolina transportation programs that receive federal and/or state funding. With an annual operating budget of approximately $5 billion dollars, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is responsible for building and maintaining North Carolina’s transportation network, as well as overseeing the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles. The NCDOT’s Division of Highways advertises and awards numerous contracts each year for all sorts of transportation work.

Genesis Block’s vision is to organize a pipeline of highly trained and certified minority owned businesses to support local supply chains in Division 3 counties including New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick, Onslow, Duplin and Sampson counties.

Genesis Block is focused on building a multi-sector database of over 250 minority owned companies to support projects and economic growth in 2024.

In a recently released study titled “Facilitating Growth for Minority-owned Businesses”, the report suggest that with no concerted effort to make significant changes in corporate and government procurement and buying practices, 333 years is the estimated time it will take for minority businesses to achieve parity with white owned firms. The Ready Willing and Able program is also designed to support skills training, capacity building and larger contracting opportunities.

Genesis Block will support the recruiting of companies while leading collaborative efforts between local economic development organizations and community stakeholders. Genesis Block will announce more details at the February Converting Conversations to Contracts.
