Genesis Block Cofounders Tracey and Girard Newkirk, were inspired to build the entrepreneur class in communities block by block, but the bigger impetus the vision was the always empowering question “What if?”. In 2020, the vision began to unfold and as we move in to 2022 let’s pop the hood and take a look at Genesis Block. What is Genesis Block?
Genesis Block is a business development services company driven by a mission to advance entrepreneurship in communities block by block. We have 5 pillars that lay the framework for the Genesis Block approach to spurring sustainable economic development and small business growth in communities:
- Business Development: We provide resources to help entrepreneurs and small business owners strengthen their ventures.
- Strategic Planning: We help forward thinking organizations achieve their goals for equity in entrepreneurship, small business growth and workforce development.
- Innovation: We manage Co-working and Shared workspaces offering entrepreneurs, freelancers and creators affordable spaces to grow their businesses.
- Entrepreneur Education: The Genesis Block Entrepreneur Academy offers four curriculum based programs that offer technical training, and mentoring regardless of the stage in their entrepreneurial journey.
- Technology: Genesis Block technology is powered by the Genesis List, a website that promotes and markets minority owned businesses. Anza is a mobile app that connects minority and women owned businesses, prime contractors, government agencies, developers, vendors and trade partners on one easy to use platform.

We believe that lowering the barriers to entrepreneurship opportunities is essential in order to create stronger communities, close gaps in disparities and provide pathways for economic prosperity. Genesis Block is a hub for community gatherings and business activity. We create collaborative environments that give community stakeholders the ability to work together in creating entrepreneurship opportunities that empower communities.
The GIN (Genesis Innovation Neighborhoods)
The workforce and workplace of the future is complex and changing. The workplace is no longer a place at all, but rather the ability to work from anywhere and have the tools of choice for creativity. Genesis Block innovations corridors are hubs for small businesses, innovation and entrepreneurship training in a live, work and play environment. Flexible housing, cool local shops, startup resources and spaces designed for collaborative opportunities provide a great environment for entrepreneur opportunities. This corridor serves as a catalyst for innovation and brings state of the art resources to traditionally underserved neighborhoods.
Economic Prosperity and Social Reconciliation
Genesis Block has a vision to leverage entrepreneurship as a mechanism for not only economic prosperity but social reconciliation. We demonstrate this vision by creating environments where the community can engage freely. Our company has hosted 250 workshops, seminars and networking events intentionally designed to create opportunities for collaboration and connection.
