Genesis Block HerStory Event Showcases Women Working Wonders in Wilmington Area

According to a survey conducted by Gusto, in 2021, women represented 49% of startups in the U.S. This figure is up from 28% just two years earlier in 2019.

According to the United States Small Business Administration, 42% of all U.S. businesses are owned by women and women-owned businesses employ over 9.4 million workers. Increasingly, women led businesses are growing and play a significant role in economic development. Over 85% of the founders receiving services from Genesis Block are women.

Genesis Block is excited to announce the 2nd annual Genesis Block HerStory Event in partnership with Common Desk and Wilmington Downtown Inc. Last year, the Genesis Block HerStory event drew a large audience of the region's best female entrepreneurs, women owned businesses and professionals. The 2024 Genesis Block HerStory event will include new features as well as recognizing the accomplishments and achievements of women entrepreneurs and business owners in the Wilmington area.

On average, women small business owners are 42 years old, have been in business for 11 years, and have a household income of $110,000 or more.

Recognition and Achievement

The Genesis Block HerStory is a collaborative effort between Genesis Block, Common Desk and Wilmington Downtown Inc. to recognize the accomplishments and achievements of women entrepreneurs and business owners in the Wilmington area. Wilmington has one of the highest ranked startup ecosystems in the country largely due to the success of female led businesses.

Networking

The Genesis Block HerStory event expects over 100 attendees for the second annual social gathering. This provides the ideal environment for social and business networking, meeting potential collaborators and generating new opportunities.

The top three motivations for women starting their own businesses are pursuing their passion, gaining financial independence, and increasing their flexibility.

Drinks and Refreshments

The Genesis Block HerStory event will have drinks and appetizers for guests and attendees. The event will be held at Common Desk in the heart of downtown Wilmington NC.
