Meet the Judges for Genesis Block Demo
Genesis Block Demo Day is a celebration of entrepreneurship in the Cape Fear region and on Friday Team Phoenix will be on full display. Demo Day features a pitch competition, where each company had four minutes to present their company. The panel of judges will grade each founder based on the notion that if you had $100,000 to invest, which company would be the most suitable for the investment.
Let’s meet the Demo Day judges.
Brooke Skipper is the Co owner of Salt Air Heating & Cooling beside her husband Devin Skipper. Salt Air was launched in 2011 with a truck and a vision. Since then Brooke has been awarded Wilmington’s 40 under 40 in 2020, joined Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministries serving as the President of the Board of Directors. Skipper recently launched a new start up, Vent Ninjas in May of this year and she is one of the regions most successful female entrepreneurs.
Brooke is a UNCW alumni, and this connection has inspired her to become actively involved in the Wilmington community. In Brooke’s free time, she enjoys hunting and addressing wetland conservation efforts. Brooke’s passion for hunting encouraged her to join the NC Ducks Unlimited State Committee.
Barnes Sutton is the Director of Planning for the town of Navassa. Barnes graduated with a double major in Political Science and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Sutton also received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Barnes is responsible for comprehensive planning and implementation responsibilities with urban design, historic preservation, community revitalization, greenway, urban forestry, multi-modal transportation and community planning functions. Sutton was just named to the 40 under 40 by the Star News and Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.
Jennifer Turnage is a Chief Financial Officer and Founding member of xElle Ventures. xElle Ventures is an early-stage Angel Network for women founders by women founders, executives, and investors. The mission of xElle Ventures, is to invest in the ideas, products, and services of women. xElle Ventures has the distinct honor of being the first Women by Women angel investment group in North Carolina.
Jennifer is a founding member and is currently serving on the Executive Committee and as Chair of the Screening Committee. Turnage is also a member of the Board of Directors at the YWCA Lower Cape Fear.
