The DiCE coalition advocates, drives visibility and opens doors of opportunity for diverse-owned businesses within the clean energy industry through various proactive networking, collaboration, and commercial engagement activities.

Genesis Block is honored to have been selected by the Diversity in Clean Energy (DiCE) Coalition to build an online platform that promotes diverse-owned businesses in the clean energy industry. The purpose of the DiCE coalition is to drive towards more diverse, inclusive and equitable practices in the sourcing, supply chain and supplier selections across the clean energy value chain of participating members.

This article summarizes the DiCE platform powered by Genesis Bridge technology and details the primary goal of DiCE, which centers on driving inclusive and equitable practices in the sourcing and supplier selections across the clean energy value chain.

DiCE will be will be a national repository for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of clean energy and its infrastructure. DiCE seeks diverse suppliers and developers as well as professionals, consultants, financiers, and lawyers.

The Diversity in Clean Energy (DiCE) initiative is an action-based coalition, convened by Duke Energy, alongside corporations such as Kroger, Microsoft, General Motors and T-Mobile, and representatives of diverse-owned businesses operating within the clean energy industry. This is a unique collaboration between utilities, corporations, and diverse-owned business within the clean energy industry.

Duke Energy initially began the organization of the DiCE Initiative alongside partners Kroger, Microsoft, T-Mobile, General Motors and Viv Development. Community partners are Edison Energy, AABE, BASF, Smart Energy Decisions, and Gryphon Consulting.

What are the objectives and goals of the DiCE initiative?

DiCE’s goals, objectives and value proposition are centered around driving visibility, inclusion and creditability of diverse- owned businesses through changing the status quo, streamlining corporate processes to include diverse-owned businesses, identifying and collaborating with them (on a national, unified scale), and moving towards innovative, sustainable projects which benefit diverse-owned businesses and communities.

DiCE envisions the platform will unify, into one comprehensive platform, all the fragmented efforts and sources with the intent to coalesce the clean energy space for diverse suppliers.

What will be the purpose of the DiCE online platform and who will it serve?

At the center of the DiCE initiative is a no cost competitive platform comprised of diverse-owned businesses operating with the clean energy industry. This platform, will be a national repository for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of clean energy and its infrastructure. DiCE seeks diverse suppliers and developers as well as professionals, land owners, consultants, financiers, lawyers and others. The DiCE platform will be part of a broader ecosystem of educational, financial, and technical resources tailored to support diverse-owned businesses operating with the clean energy industry such as renewable energy development, installation and maintenance support, research and emerging technology, nuclear energy maintenance, electric vehicle transportation, Black and Indigenous farmers and landowners, legal and contract support, and consultants within the clean energy industry.

How will the DiCE platform help diverse owned businesses?

It will enhance diverse-owned businesses’ ability to market themselves and be accessible to corporations and utilities. Buyers will be able to access the platform and see videos and testimonials of diverse-owned businesses. Safety certification badges and other designations will be visibly associated with diverse-owned businesses’ profiles on the platform. In addition, the platform will facilitate diverse-owned businesses’ scalability. The platform will accelerate diverse owned business enterprise partnerships and collaboration which may allow them to join forces to augment services and capabilities. This internal networking can enhance competitiveness and MBE’s ability to respond to utility and corporate RFPs.

What are the benefits for corporations and organizations to join the DiCE platform?

By working to keep up with larger business demands and a growing minority market, diverse suppliers provide the unique opportunity to produce new products and solutions to overcome competition. Their typically smaller size can provide the advantage of being able to adapt more quickly to market changes and business fluctuations. This all makes diversely-owned businesses prime candidates for strategic relationships with larger companies.

How will DiCE support corporations regarding compliance and ESG goals?

The capstone of the DiCE platform will be creating a web-based ESG tool to support net zero goals in a competitive marketplace platform. The ESG provenance tracking system will monitor and collect relevant data in a dashboard form to support the organizational goals of DiCE members.

How will a digital identification for diverse owned businesses on the DiCE platform work for users?

Safety certification badges and other designations will be visibly associated with diverse-owned businesses’ profiles on the platform. If a diverse-owned business has worked with a DiCE corporation, the corporation will issue a virtual badge that the diverse-owned business can associate with its profile. This will aid in publicizing the true and unique values and capabilities of diverse-owned businesses in the clean energy sector.
